2 years! That is how long it took me to understand and « accept » the idea that I would never walk again… It was a long grieving process, and even a very positive person has to learn to ignore the word « hope ».

We regularly read articles in the press with sensational titles, such as: « immense hope for paraplegics » but we very quickly understand that it is just another article to make us believe in a discovery that is not really one. However, the authors of these articles do not realise the pain that they are inflicting on the disabled, by arousing false hope.

When Mr Brodard came to see me 6 years ago and outlined his project, I said to myself: « another one! »

However today I must say that I have been surprised by the serious nature of this project, and the speed with which it has evolved. I have to admit that for the first time in the 14 years I have been in a wheelchair, the word hope has recovered its full meaning. When one meets Mr Brodard, one quality strikes you immediately:   ENTHUSIASM.

He has managed to transmit this enthusiasm to his whole team, and as a keen sportsman, I know that is what makes the difference between success and failure.

By choosing to bring to public attention the extraordinary results obtained so far, the Swiss Foundation for Cyberthosis carries a heavy responsibility on its shoulders, for failure can simply not be allowed.

Around 3 million francs are needed to complete this magnificent project; that is less than 50 centimes per Swiss citizen, or the price of 500 wheelchairs! Who else can boast of such a challenge with so little financial resources?

I can only encourage you to sponsor this great  Swiss Romand project and to associate yourself with it by supporting the SFC’s “Objective walk again" and to thank you most  sincerely in the name of all disabled people who hope one day, thanks to you and the Foundation, to get out of their wheelchairs.

Sportingly yours,
                  Philippe Herzog
